At KOBUNGA, our mission is to establish a chef-driven and hospitality-driven restaurant experience, showcasing our unique Korean-American upbringing through the most popular Korean food -- Korean BBQ. We’ve been cooking up a storm, improving our dishes every day, and sharing our food and culture with Greater LA since 2015. We can’t wait for you to try it!

We’re reinventing the wheel when it comes to traditional Korean BBQ. Everyone is so used to having to sit down in front of a grill, know which cuts to order, and eat for 2 hours at a time. We’ve simplified the experience - now, Korean BBQ doesn’t have to be an entire event. We bring fast-casual to the table:

Chef Driven, Healthy Korean Food

We pride ourselves in making the most delicious homemade Korean sides and Korean BBQ. All of our side dishes and sauces are vegan and gluten free, so we do not use fish sauce in our products, and only gluten free soy sauce.

Our appetizers and main courses are all created with customization in mind, so that you can make your meal exactly how you want it. Build your bowl or plate with healthy, quality ingredients, and enjoy yourself!

John Kim

Founder and CEO

After college, I worked in New York at an investment bank and a hedge fund. However, I felt unfulfilled - my purpose was only to efficiently allocate other people's money. Wanting to create something that people wanted but didn’t have, I remembered my "lunchbox" moment in second grade (I had just moved to a new school) when other students made fun of me for bringing my mom's cooking to school. I was traumatized, but it made me realize as an adult that I want to share Korean food with the world. Now, I want to make Korean BBQ accessible to more and more people.

Stephen CHo

Chef and COO

While attending NYU Hotel Management school, I worked in both casual restaurants and 5 star hotels, and eventually started working full time at a hotel in Beverly Hills. I thought I wanted to climb the corporate ladder, but I had a growing passion and a dream of opening up a restaurant. I started cooking my own food at popups and became a chef and partner at an underground supper club. After cooking my own underground dinners and looking to open a restaurant, I’m excited to showcase Korean food to the world, through our Korean-American upbringing.
